Unbelievable Opportunity

Have you ever considered hosting an orphan in your home? Have you wondered just how hosting an orphan in the U.S. and returning them to an orphanage is helpful? Do you feel called to help orphans but you’re just not sure how God can use you? Have you ever considered adoption but have a million questions?

Carolina Hope for Orphans has been given a wonderful last-minute opportunity to host an evening with Lena Brovko and Oksana Sydorchuk of Circle of Friends.

Circle of Friends is a non-profit, charitable organization (in Ukraine) consisting of evangelical Christians, which provides support for orphans, foster parents, graduates of boarding schools, and other young people who are in need of a social support network. This organization has many stories of children in Ukraine who have found Christ and found their smile through Christian camps and hosting programs. Lena and Oksana work for Circle of Friends and are traveling in the U.S. this summer. Carolina Hope for Orphans has been given an opportunity to work with Circle of Friends to provide hosting opportunities for children in Ukraine.

If you are interested in hosting a child, supporting the effort financially, or are just looking to hear amazing testimonies, we encourage you to attend this event next week. We are honored to be hosting these ladies at two locations in South Carolina. Please see below for further information.

Hosting Program Postponement

Posted in News, Tour on December 2nd, 2009 by admin – Be the first to comment

Lisa Prather sent out this email last week:

It is with a heavy hear that I write this e-mail. As you know, Carolina Hope for Orphans is trying to bring approximately 10 orphans to the US this winter to be hosted by Christian families. Unfortunately to date, we have not been able to raise enough funding or find enough host families to proceed with the program. In order to make the necessary arrangements for travel, we must have at least 70% of the money raised by the first week of December. There are many families who are willing to host but can not commit financially to bring an orphan to the US. If you would like to make a donation toward our efforts to bring these orphans to the US, please go to the link below. If we are unable to raise enough funds, we will be postponing the tour until summer. We really do not want to postpone the tour as we will have many disappointed children and families. Please commit to pray for this project. We need your support.

Retrospective: a host family relates their Ukraine hosting experience

One of our host families from this past summer’s Ukraine Hosting Program has written up a brief account of their experience. Names have been changed for privacy reasons.

As this past summer was winding down, we received an e-mail asking us if we would host two Ukrainian orphan sisters — Hanna, 9 and Lilia, 10. We were excited about the opportunity to provide a place to stay and possibly unite them with an adoptive family, so we welcomed them into our home. It was only a very short time into their visit that we realized that their adoptive family was living in our home. We meshed so well from the beginning. Our youngest daughter Ruth was able to quickly share her place in the limelight with her new “twin” sisters. Our older children, who were previously much too cool to be seen with us outside the home, were suddenly swimming with us in the community pool and even walking into and out of the pool area within speaking distance of their parents! These same two teenagers, who can’t be wrestled out of bed with a crowbar and a bucket of ice at ten in the morning, drove with us to a tearful departure with our visitors at three in the morning on a school day. We would gladly participate in this type of program again with or without the intention of adopting our visitors. We are just so thankful for the opportunity and for the joy of those three weeks.

First Ukraine hosting project a success

At the end of July, Carolina Hope for Orphans began looking for host families for children who were scheduled to visit the U.S. through another hosting program but for whom no families had been found. We quickly found 4 families for 7 children, and the trips were a great success. The children who visited ranged in age from 9 to 15 years old. Five stayed in South Carolina, and two in North Carolina.

Carolina Hope for Orphans will be hosting children from Ukarine again in December.  We expect to have 7 to 10 children at that time.  We are looking for SC families who would be interested in hosting this new group.
